Alongside our awareness generation efforts, we launched an online fundraising campaign on the platform Milaap, with the aim of raising funds for the main empowerment initiative of Project SAKHI: the Skills for Success Certification Program. This program was designed as a skilling program at Dreams Foundation, a well-known NGO in Ahmedabad that works with and supports women of low-income and marginalized communities. Our program focused on value addition for textile waste, teaching women how to convert leftover factor into bags, decorative hangings, and mats. We successfully raised over 2.5 lakh INR, which was then used to bring in expert instructors, sewing and tailoring equipment, and raw materials for the products.
Project SAKHI led the facilitation of the Skills for Success Certification Program, where over 130 women in Ahmedabad were imparted sewing and design skills to be able to convert textile waste into attractive, marketable products. The aim of this program was to provide these an additional source of income, one that would not require full-time commitment and would be manageable alongside household and family responsibilities.
